Job Purpose


The Director of Compliance Operations will be responsible for ensuring IFEU and its Members satisfy their regulatory obligations with particular regard to position maintenance, open interest reporting and the calculation of the ICE Brent Index.

They will be familiar with the IFEU Rules, MiFID II, the Market Abuse Regulation and ongoing regulatory developments. In this role, they will demonstrate strong managerial and organisational skills, overseeing multiple tasks simultaneously whilst also coordinating the workloads of the team.



  • Supervise team of analysts in carrying out day-to-day tasks
  • Administer and supervise the calculation and publication of the ICE Brent Index
  • Oversee the publication of open interest and exchange position reporting; reconciliations of positions vs open interest
  • Monitor Member positions in the lead up to contract expirations, ensuring adherence to IFEU expiry and delivery limits; oversee limit exemption applications
  • Supervise publication of Commitment of Traders reports
  • Communicate with Member firms regarding potential issues or general enquiries
  • Manage investigations on potential breaches of IFEU rules
  • Produce management information for internal and external use
  • Ensure procedure documentation is accurate and kept up to date
  • Represent the department as required to senior management, regulators and Board committees
  • Identify new methods to enhance and streamline processes, increasing efficiency and accuracy of tasks



Knowledge and Experience

  • Very strong knowledge of commodity and financial derivative futures and options markets
  • Understanding of regulatory reporting requirements (e.g. Large Trader Reporting, MIFID II)
  • Awareness of the IFEU Rules and IFEU’s obligations as a Recognised Investment Exchange
  • Knowledge of the Market Abuse Regulation (MAR) and 5th Money Laundering Directive (5MLD)
  • Keeps abreast of regulatory changes
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Compliance and/or regulatory experience within financial markets is essential
  • Experience with commodity derivatives essential
  • Previous experience managing staff
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability of managing and motivating members of staff
  • Excellent organisational skills, able to coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficient at identifying problems and working efficiently to resolve
  • Strong drive to continually improve and develop working practices and industry knowledge
  • Proactive in initiating or delegating project work to improve department processes
  • IT Skills - Proficient in Excel and Word. Able to quickly adapt to new technology and systems
  • Working hours - 09:00-18:00
