Purpose

 

 

MERSCORP, a part of Intercontinental Exchange (www.theice.com), operates the MERS® System, a national electronic registry system that tracks the changes in servicing rights and beneficial ownership interests in mortgage loans.  MERS® was created by the mortgage industry to streamline the mortgage process by using electronic commerce. Beneficiaries of MERS include mortgage originators, servicers, warehouse lenders, wholesale lenders, retail lenders, document custodians, settlement agents, title companies, insurers, investors, county recorders and consumers.

 

We are seeking an attorney to join our in-house legal team to support a myriad of legal matters.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage litigation matters and issues specifically assigned to counsel
  • Handle inquiries from attorneys, paralegals, title agents and members regarding general legal questions pertaining to MERSCORP Holdings, Inc
  • Coordinate with outside counsel on operation and litigation issues
  • Review contracts and manage legal files containing company contracts and other legal documents
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Experience
  • J.D. required as well as admitted to practice in at least one state
  • 3-5+ years as a licensed attorney
  • Dependable self-starter with excellent communication skills who works well under pressure and can prioritize heavy workload
  • Previous work experience in law firm or as in-house counsel desirable
  • Previous experience in real estate (closing agent, title company) helpful
  • Computer skills (Windows / MS Office) to include word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail,  PowerPoint presentation and database experience a plus
