Job Purpose

The Storage and Backup team manages the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) global environment and supports multiple storage & backup technologies. The team is responsible for data backup, storage, availability and storage lifecycle management for all storage data in the organization.


ICE is looking to hire a Storage Engineer to be part of a team responsible for the support & administration of our multi-site NetBackup environment running on Linux and Windows Servers. This role will be responsible for a range of activities from day-to-day support and troubleshooting to advanced installation & configuration tasks to project work that may include a new deployment or upgrade of NetBackup servers.  The environment has 5,000 clients and 13 petabytes of backup data under support.


The ideal candidate will be versatile and flexible with knowledge of multiple backup technologies and methods.  The will also have the ability to work well on a team, collaborate, think creatively and thrive in an environment of sharing and exchanging ideas freely.


  • Configure backup policies and support data backup solutions to meet the business needs and deliver required SLAs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve backup failures and issues
  • Service tickets and customer requests for backups, restores, DR tests, and backup data verification
  • Perform daily, weekly and quarterly audits to ensure that backup SLAs are maintained
  • Work with internal customers to determine backup needs and implement solutions to meet them
  • Participate in on-call rotation
  • Create and disseminate backup reports

Knowledge and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • 3+ years of Veritas NetBackup experience in a large heterogeneous enterprise and/or Veritas Certified Specialist (VCS)
  • Knowledge of NetBackup database agents including Oracle RMAN, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Exchange
  • Strong knowledge of different de-duplication technologies & enterprise-class tape silos
  • Solid systems administration knowledge & skill in RedHat Enterprise Linux or Microsoft Windows
  • Strong programming skills in one or more scripting languages (Bourne/Korn Shell, Perl, Python)
  • Strong skill in one of more reporting tools (OpsCenter Analytics, Tableau, Microsoft Excel)
  • Able to work as a team, collaborate with team members and share information
  • Strong communication skills and ability to document procedures
  • Good understanding of FC technology, switches and SAN Fabrics
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP networks, routing and its importance to data backups
  • Good understanding of Domain Name Services (DNS) and its importance to data backups
  • Working knowledge of Cloud services, S3 and one or more vendors
  • Knowledge of ACSLS, Dell EMC Data Domain, SL3000/SL4000/SL8500 tape silos
  • Knowledge of other enterprise backup software products such as Commvault Simpana, Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM), Spectrum Protect (aka TSM)
  • Knowledge of new & emerging backup products (Cohesity, Rubrik, Data Protect)
  • Storage industry recognized certification
