As a Development Manager, you will play a leadership role on a team by contributing to the design, development, maintenance and support of ICE Trade Vault, a high-volume enterprise messaging application.  This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technology leader to impact a critical and highly visible platform for ICE.  The ideal candidate must have a proven track record of building teams, be results-oriented, self-motivated and can thrive in a fast-pace environment.  This role requires frequent interactions with project and product managers, developers, quality assurance and other stakeholders, in order to ensure delivery of a world class application to our users.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively engage and lead in the design and development of a high-volume enterprise messaging application.
  • Follow and ensure guidelines for quality and consistency within the design and development phases of the application.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and optimize the application.
  • Support the design, architecture and planning of technology solutions to meet the business need.  Apply comprehensive business processes, application design and functional knowledge in problem resolution.  Propose and define solutions and standards which may impact a team or the organization.
  • Lead and contribute to the development of new methods, procedures, processes or systems and understand the impact of these changes.  
  • Provide leadership and expertise in the investigation and resolution of performance related issues.
  • Assist in planning, organizing and controlling activities and in the development of the overall project plans and timetables.  
  • Provide guidance, support, train, develop and hire technology staff.  Provide evaluation on their technical proficiency to management as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information technology.
  • 7+ years of experience with core Java and Java EE
  • Proven success with test-driven development
  • Understanding of distributed transactions
  • Experience in concurrent and distributed programming
  • First-hand experience with enterprise messaging (IBM WebSphere MQ or equivalent)
  • Track record of completing assignments on time with a high degree of quality
  • Experience and/or knowledge of all aspects of the SDLC methodology and related concepts and practices
  • Comprehension of Spring Framework preferred
  • Practical knowledge of Java application servers (JBoss, Tomcat) preferred
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies preferred
  • Knowledge of Maven preferred
  • A hands-on leader with the ability to manage and develop a team
  • Effective communication skills with ability to interact effectively with multiple stakeholders
  • Proven success working in a fast-paced business environment
  • Experience working with commodity markets or financial trading environments preferred
